We Can Help You Keep Up Your Family’s Oral Health

Family Dentistry 2 in Waco, TX by Dr. Michael Thrasher of Hillcrest Dental Care

Today, we want to introduce the Joneses.

They are a typical Texas family — dad, mom, and two kids. The grandparents live nearby, so they can visit whenever they want.

This time of year, Mrs. Jones likes to get the family together for a photo, so they can have something to remember the summer. And one thing she wants is for everyone to smile!

That’s a lot easier when everyone’s teeth are healthy. It’s also a great reason for the Joneses (or you and your family) to visit Hillcrest Dental Care a couple times each year.

We are located in Waco, TX, and we offer a range of services to help the youngest Joneses, Grandma and Grandpa Jones, and everyone in between.

Keep reading to learn some ways we can help each member of the Jones family — and yours. Then give us a call at 254-400-2868 to schedule your next dental appointment with us.

Dental Bonding to Patch Up Dad’s Smile

Papa Jones enjoys working around the house doing repairs and other projects.

But he’s not always as careful as he should be (which is why Mama Jones makes sure the first aid kit is fully stocked). Most of the time, dad’s injuries are pretty minor, such as a splinter or a bruised toe when he drops his hammer.

This year, however, dad was holding a flashlight in his mouth (which is not something he should do) while he was trying to tighten a screw. The problem is Junior ran into the room to ask dad a question. Dad got startled, turned around too fast, and hit his mouth on the wall … while he was still holding the flashlight between his teeth.

As a result, a few of his teeth got chipped. The problem was small but noticeable.

Fortunately, that’s the kind of problem we could fix with some simple dental bonding. In a single visit to our office, dad’s smile could look as good as new!

Keeping Katie’s Smile Looking Great

Katie, the oldest child in the Jones family, is a great student and a hard worker. She tries her hardest to do what is right and to do what she should.

She listens carefully and closely when she visits the dentist because she knows how important it is to keep her teeth healthy. That’s even more important now that some of her primary teeth have fallen out and her permanent teeth are coming in.

It always makes her happy to find out that she doesn’t have any cavities at the end of her professional dental cleanings. That why she is very deliberate about brushing her teeth for two minutes every night and flossing her teeth before she goes to bed. (She’s trying to teeth her brother how to floss, but he still has trouble wrapping it around his fingers.)

But we also take digital X-rays, which use a fraction of the radiation of old film X-ray machines. This way we can keep a close watch on the changes to Katie’s smile as her adult teeth erupt. If she might need braces, we want her parents to know so they can get prepared.

Grandpa’s New Teeth

If only Grandpa Jones had been as careful about his teeth as Katie is …

He might still have most of his bottom teeth if he had. Instead, he’s been living with dentures for the last few years, but it just isn’t the same as having a full set of healthy teeth.

Sure, his smile looks OK (when his dentures stay in place), but he can’t eat his favorite barbecue anymore. He can’t risk biting into corn on the cob, either. In fact, there’s a lot of foods he wants to eat, but can’t because of his loose dentures.

(And don’t get him started on denture adhesives.)

We could fix Grandpa’s problems by giving him a set of dental implants to hold his dentures securely in place.

Implants are replacements for the roots of missing teeth. Unlike adhesives, implants are embedded in the jawbone. This allows them to anchor a set of dentures (in Grandpa’s case) or a dental bridge or crown for someone missing a few teeth or just one tooth.

With implants, Grandpa would be able to bite and chew nearly as well as someone with a full set of healthy teeth (like Katie). That means he could start eating barbecue, corn on the cob, and anything else he wants to eat anytime he wants!

A Whiter Smile for Mom

Mama Jones tries to look her best no matter where she goes.

She’s not trying to be vain. She just feels more confident when she’s happy with the way she looks. That’s why she takes her time whether she’s picking out a new outfit for work or working out.

That also includes her smile. Mom likes to keep her pearly whites looking like they deserve the name. But like all of us, her teeth become stained over time. She enjoys sweet tea and a glass of wine with dinner, as well as pasta and a dessert now and then. All of those things (and many more) cause stains to form gradually on her smile.

To keep her teeth looking their best, she could come to our office for a professional teeth whitening treatment. This is just one of the cosmetic services that we offer.
