For patients who have problems with their wisdom teeth, the first step for me and in my practice is to evaluate whether that is something I can do in my practice, or whether it's a really complex case and they're badly impacted. If they are, I'm gonna refer that patient to an oral surgeon cuz that's where they need to be. If they're the kind in the position where I can take care of them, then I'm going to offer that service here. We're going to do it basically the same way they do it at the oral surgeons office. We're gonna offer sedation, we’re gonna get them numb, we’re gonna take the wisdom teeth out, all of them, typically, at one time. They may have a little soreness, but they're sore one time. The beauty of sedation is the patients are so relaxed that they don't have a lot of post-operative pain like they did in the old days when they weren't relaxed and they were just numbing them up and not sedating them, they have more anxiety, the blood pressure's up, they even tend to have more post-operative pain and complications. Whereas, with sedation, getting them all out at one time, they usually do really well. They might take Advil and Tylenol for pain. They don't even typically have to have prescription drugs for that.

Using Safe Sedation To Keep You Completely Comfortable
Dr. Thrasher began using sedation to soothe our patients over 20 years ago. He knows exactly how to select the best of our three sedation options for you.
Of course, we will numb your mouth with a local anesthetic to make sure you feel nothing during the procedure, but we also understand that dental anxiety could be preventing you from receiving treatment. If that’s the case, we offer the following safe sedation options:
- Nitrous oxide, a.k.a. “laughing gas” or “relaxing air,” as Dr. Thrasher calls it. This form of sedation is inhaled and quickly calms you down while making you a little drowsy. After a while, you should be able to drive yourself home.
- Oral conscious sedation, which is taken in pill form and is stronger than nitrous oxide. You’ll remain awake but will be totally free of stress.
After your teeth are removed, Dr. Thrasher will make sure you have all the necessary info regarding your healing process. If you have any questions while your mouth heals, we’re here to help!
